The Exploitation of a Godly Character Trait - Ruminating in the Word of God

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saohim today anwhat came to my heart and mind in Proverbs 11:1,

"The Lord detests dishonest scales,
but accurate weights find favor with him."

It is in the Lord's own nature to be just, honest and fair, which is what this proverb tells us. He abhors dishonesty and deceitfulness. Those things that are just and fair find favor with him. He says in Jeremiah 9:24 "…I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,"

I believe we have received, to a degree, a bent in the same direction, as we are created in God's image. Fairness is a concept that is deeply rooted within us. Even a toddler will manifest this by stomping his feet to exclaim, "That's not fair!" This, of course, is beside the point whether they are being treated fairly or not. Their perception leads to a great agitation if they feel they are the victim of unfairness or dishonesty.

Our sinful nature leads us astray, and I believe this sense of fairness is exploited for political and other reasons. Our public discourse is rife with words like "justice" (as in social justice or racial justice, or anything-you-want justice), "equity", "equal outcomes" and the like.

Leave it up to the dark side to exploit something godly to pursue what is ungodly.

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share what moved you about him from your Bible reading today. I'd love to hear from you!

If you have someone you would like to receive these ruminations, send me their email address. I'm happy to add them to the list. If you are receiving this and would like to be removed from the list, just reply and let me know.
