Controlling our Ears! - Ruminating in the Word of God

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saohim today anwhat came to my heart and mind in Proverbs 5:1-2,

"My son, pay attention to my wisdom,
turn your ear to my words of insight,
that you may maintain discretion
and your lips may preserve knowledge."

I note the instruction to "turn your ear" in a specific direction. There are a number of voices, a lot of voices, that seek our ear! In this proverb we are told to turn our ear in a specific direction. We are not to listen to all the influences seeking our attention, but a specific one: "my wisdom". The importance of this is underscored with the imperative, "Now then, my sons, listen to me; do not turn aside from what I say." Verse 7.

The notion of turning our ear in a specific direction is given a second time in verses 13-14 where the consequences of not turning our ear in the right direction is given, "I would not obey my teachers or turn my ear to my instructors. And I was soon in serious trouble in the assembly of God's people."

I need to take control of my ears! That is, I need to discipline myself to turn my attention to a certain specific influence, the influence of Wisdom!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share what moved you about him from your Bible reading today. I'd love to hear from you!

If you have someone you would like to receive these ruminations, send me their email address. I'm happy to add them to the list. If you are receiving this and would like to be removed from the list, just reply and let me know.
