The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in Proverbs 3:9-10,
"Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine."
The Lord, as our Creator, Sustainer and Savior, assuredly is deserving of expressions of our love, our adoration, our reverence, as well as our appreciation and thankfulness. How do we express those things? Here is some direction he has provided us. Certainly, setting aside for him a part of what he has blessed us with is a meaningful expression.
It is clear that whatever it is we give our time, talents, energy and wealth to, expresses what is most important to us. That is how we manifest our priorities and desires - what it is that is most important to us.
In verse 10 we are told we will experience God's blessing in return as we worship by giving to him. This is not to be mistaken as a scheme to enrich ourselves, however. Many "evangelists" on TV, who only serve their own appetites and not the Lord, peddle the notion of a get rich scheme here. It doesn't work, because the hearts of those who do so really don't hold the Lord as the apple of their eye - it is money that occupies that place.
Here is something good for me to be mindful of this morning.
