Worship for Today: The Lord will not keep a record of sins!

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Psalm 130:3-4,

"If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared."

The psalmist here reminds me of the Lord's revelation of himself to Moses on Mt. Sinai. In Exodus 34:6-7a we read, "The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin."

The Lord has a keen sense of justice. The death of Jesus Christ on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin is a demonstration of the Lord's exquisite pursuit of his love for us as he satiated the priority and requirement of his justice.

Since all mankind but one has sinned, the answer to the rhetorical question is one. Just one who could stand were the Lord to keep a record of sins: the man Jesus Christ! But because of the one sinless man who gave himself as a ransome for us, the Lord will not keep a record of sins! With the Lord is forgiveness! Particularly in light of the cost required for that forgiveness, the Lord is to be feared!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share your thoughts of worship with us from your Bible reading today. We'd love to hear from you!
