The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Psalm 139:1-5,
"O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord. You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me."
Here is an amazing thing: of all the billions of people who have ever lived, the Lord knows each one as intimately as David points out here! I hate to admit, but I have to, that I take for granted all too much that my relationship with the Lord is unique and separate from his relationship with any other. The Lord knows each of us separately and intimately.
The Lord knows when I sit and when I stand! Every movement, every where I go the Lord is aware and takes note of. From one perspective this brings a very real angst: how comfortable am I knowing that what ever it is I do, where ever I go, what ever I say, what ever I think, what ever I feel, the Lord is very aware of?! This is the stuff the "fear of the Lord" is made of!
From another perspective though, it is very comforting. I read in Romans 8:28 that God works for my good in all things, that I will be molded into the likeness of his Son, Jesus Christ. This means to me there is no danger I face that God is not there with me, there is no danger that he is not insuring is for my best. As I read of the love and kindness of our Lord and his concern for me, how precious it is that I'm not one of billions, but a single solitary individual that my Lord knows, is aware of and loves- just as if I were his only one!
