Worship for Today: The Lord God Almighty is on our side!

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Psalm 108:10,

"Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom?"

In this psalm David seeks the Lord's help for victory. In verse 6 he says, "Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love many be delivered." As we read of David's life we learn of his enemies and his quest for victory over them.

As David, we have our enemies as well. Facing the consequences of our sin, certain judgment at the hand of God, death and the very real prospect of an eternity in the lake of fire, we need to overcome what we face. As believers we face Satan as an enemy. We likewise face our own sin nature as an opponent that seeks that which is hostile to God. The world itself is carried along by a collective sin nature that opposes the people of God. As Edom was hostile to the Lord and his people, David sought to vanquish this enemy. Likewise, we, as God's people seek to vanquish our enemies as well.

What is the outlook for victory? How does our strength match up against our foes? Who will go with us to bring us the victory? As David knew that it was only through the Lord's "right hand", verse 6, that he would find victory against the "fortified city", Edom, so it will only be through the Lord's right hand that we will achieve victory against our foes.

The wonder of it all is we find in the Lord a ready ally! He loves us and wants to see us through to the victory over our foes! Who will bring me to Edom? The Lord God Almighty! He is on our side!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share your thoughts of worship with us from your Bible reading today. We'd love to hear from you!
