The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Psalm 31:19,
“How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you.”
In this psalm David has in mind the many enemies he had and the Lord’s deliverance of him from them. As I consider David’s thoughts expressed here, his appreciation for all the Lord does for him, it causes me to think of all the goodness the Lord has stored up for all of us who fear him.
In Ephesians 1:13-14 we read, “You also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory.” We have an inheritance the Lord has stored up for us and is guaranteed to us!
In 1 Peter 1:3-9 we read, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice… Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” Peter speaks of an “inexpressible and glorious joy” in reference to this inheritance the goodness of the Lord has stored up for us!
And when we finally show before the Lord to receive our inheritance, what a joy and celebration it will be! Jude speaks of this in his doxology in Jude 24-25, “To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.”
How wonderful is the Lord’s goodness he has stored up for those of us who fear him!
