Worship for Today: God is both strong and loving!

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Psalm 62:11-12,

One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done.

David, in this psalm for Jeduthun, says his soul finds rest in God alone, verse 1. He says that God alone is his rock, his salvation and his fortress. In this psalm he instructs his own soul to find its rest in God alone as his hope comes from him, verse 5. David goes on to say that God is his mighty rock and refuge, verse 7.

As we read of Davids life we find a man who was not perfect, who struggled with sin from time to time just as the rest of us at times maybe more than some of us. But we also find a man who was mighty in faith. In God David found the answers of life, the keys to living and the path to the hereafter: resurrection to an abundant, eternal life with his Savior. God was Davids only refuge, his only hope and his only fortress. He felt no need to hedge his bets or to insure he had failsafe measures in place in case God didnt pan out. God was all he needed for all of life.

The ground for Davids complete confidence in God is revealed in the last two verses of this psalm. He found two things about God: God is strong and God is loving! What a combination! What if we recognized Gods overwhelming strength but found him to be an unloving God? What if we recognized Gods boundless love for us but found him to lack strength to carry out the desires of his love for us? What kind of rock, what kind of fortress, what kind of salvation would that bring about? What kind of hope would that present us? What kind of mighty rock or refuge would he make? But our God is both strong and loving!

David discovered life transforming truth about God: God is strong and God is loving! What a wonderful God to place our complete trust and confidence in! What a fortress of salvation and refuge our God is! What a wonderful hope we have in him!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share your thoughts of worship with us from your Bible reading today. We’d love to hear from you!
