Worship for Today: God is our refuge and strength!

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Psalm 43:3-4,

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

The psalmist here observes that God is our refuge and strength. I note that the psalmist will not be fearful in danger because God is the ever-present help in trouble not that danger is removed. He says, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging, he will not fear. It is not that God will remove that danger, but that God is our refuge and strength in the trouble we find ourselves in.

For us to recognize the refuge and strength God is for us, we need to find ourselves in danger from time to time. Refuge can only be present when trouble exists. I dont know about you, but when in danger I always ask God to remove it and often what I find is that he doesnt remove the danger but becomes my refuge and my strength in the midst of it. I find he is always there as an ever-present help in trouble and as such, one way or another, I get through it. And, the bottom line is, when that trouble comes that takes me from this life, as always, God will be my refuge and strength and see me safely through into the resurrection!

Why is God our refuge and strength in an ever-present way? Because he cares for us, he loves us and he has promised all of us who have embraced him in faith that he works all things for our good and that we have an inheritance in him. He will see us safely through to it!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share your theme of worship with us from your Bible reading today. We’d love to hear from you!
