The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in Proverbs 29:2,
"When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;
when the wicked rule, the people groan."
Here is another proverb that speaks to the impact rulers have on a people, depending on whether they are righteous or wicked (see Proverbs 28:12 and 28). The truth contained in it is as fresh and meaningful today as when it was penned three thousand years ago.
Politics is all about who has the power to make things happen. Obviously, when wicked people rule it is to the detriment of the people. Foolish decisions will be made, and more likely than not the people will be exploited by their wicked rulers. Additionally, wicked rulers are depraved in their desire to control the lives of everyone around them.
On the other hand, when a people have a wise ruler, good governance takes place, prosperity abounds, and the threat of someone wanting to control every aspect of everyone's lives is abated.
How simple and insightful this book of Proverbs is!
