The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in Proverbs 28:1,

"The wicked flee though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion."
Why are they fleeing? What are they avoiding or running from? This proverb makes clear they do this when there is nothing obvious to flee from. What is going on here?
We can certainly speculate. My speculation focuses on something we read in Psalm 14:5, "There they [the fools, the wicked] are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous." I can't help but think that wicked people, deep down, have some kind of foreboding sense that they are cut off from God and playing for the wrong team. A terrifying judgment awaits them. Somehow they harbor a presentiment that something horrific is headed their way.
They may attempt to mask it, they may attempt to deny it, they may pursue absurd notions to replace their angst, but God's judgment is coming for them. They really have nothing but a helplessness and a hopelessness in their lives with that target on their backs.
What I see in this proverb seems to point to that reality.
