Making Presumptions - Ruminating in the Word of God

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saohim today anwhat came to my heart and mind in Proverbs 27:1,

"Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring."

To boast (or even express assuredness) about something yet future certainly requires presumption. It really is a taking of life for granted. The reality is that we cannot present assumptions as certainties.

I often think of this very thing when a sales pitch includes the offer of "no payments for 12 months!" (or some variation of that come on). If I can't make the payments now, how can I ever assume I might be able to in 12 months?

It is unwise to boast about tomorrow as it presumes on what God may do. A good companion proverb to this one is Proverbs 20:24, "A person's steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand their own way?"

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share what moved you about him from your Bible reading today. I'd love to hear from you!

If you have someone you would like to receive these ruminations, send me their email address. I'm happy to add them to the list. If you are receiving this and would like to be removed from the list, just reply and let me know.
