The Lord Is Our "Rich Store" - Ruminating in the Word of God

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saohim today anwhat came to my heart and mind in Isaiah 31:1,

"Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord."

We read in Isaiah 33:5-6, "The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness. He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure."

Why would Israel look to Egypt for help in their fear of Assyria? With all the resources of our Creator God available to them, why bypass him in desperation for protection?

There can be very little that can express lack of faith and confidence in God more clearly than passing on his help and turning to others for what he can provide.

The verse above can be an indictment of many of us: why do we run to others for what God can easily and effectively provide (and might very well want to)? After all, as is pointed out a couple of chapters later, our God is exalted! He dwells on high! He provides a firm foundation for our lives! He is the "rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge"! Our acknowledgement of who God is and what he is capable of ("the fear of the Lord") is the key, the access to him!

Surely our God provides a "rich store"!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share what moved you about him from your Bible reading today. I'd love to hear from you!

If you have someone you would like to receive these ruminations, send me their email address. I'm happy to add them to the list. If you are receiving this and would like to be removed from the list, just reply and let me know.
