Worship for Today: We have eternal blessings in the Lord!

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Psalm 21:6,

Surely you have granted him [David] eternal blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.

David speaks of himself in the third person in this psalm and here he reflects on the eternal blessings the Lord has given him as well as the joy that he experiences in the presence of the Lord. While David was king of Israel several millennia ago, we share in the very same eternal blessings David was looking ahead to. We as believers in Jesus Christ have a guaranteed reservation in the coming resurrection to eternal life! We will share in the same eternity with the same wonderful things David will have in the resurrection. Im not saying we will all have the same role in the resurrection, David will have his, I will have mine and you will have yours, but the eternal blessings David looked ahead to will all be ours as well.

David also points to something else he found, not something to look forward to in the future but something he experienced as a blessing in his life at the time: he felt joy in the presence of the Lord in his life. Likewise we have access to the presence of the Lord in our lives today. While it is not a face-to-face presence as it will be in the resurrection, James tells us that if we come near to the Lord, he will come near to us today, James 4:8.

I think all of us have experienced the joy that comes to us at one time or another, as we sense his presence is near. How exciting it is to feel that presence!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share your theme of worship with us from your Bible reading today. We’d love to hear from you!
