Worship for Today

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Mark 8:1-3,

During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.’”

This passage relates the story of how Jesus Christ fed the four thousand men from seven loaves of bread and a few small fish. I wonder what the count of the crowd was when you factor in the women and children... One thing that does not escape my attention is that the people were so enthralled by Jesus that they remained with him for days without food and Im sure the other amenities folks normally enjoy at their own homes. As Jesus observes, they had remained with him for three days in the face of having nothing to eat. Jesus demonstrates his compassion we know and love so much by providing them food.

I, like many folks, hate to miss out on things. In 1969 I spent the year in Viet Nam. While I certainly had my share of events I missed out on a lot of things that took place back home. Woodstock in New York, mankinds first steps on the moon, all kinds of things. I try not to miss out on too much these days, especially the things I enjoy. As I observe how taken the people were with Jesus Christ, how drawn to him they were, I know there are things of him that have that effect. I dont want to miss out myself and so I find as I spend time in the pages of Scripture I learn more of him and become increasingly enthralled and enraptured with him myself!

Here is someone who defies all conventional wisdom with a much higher one leaving me astonished. Here is someone who has a love that transcends far beyond what we experience anywhere. Here is someone who is able to confound the wisest and most learned of the spiritual elites! Here is someone who claims I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me. Here is someone who leaves masses of people spellbound with parables and insights into the things of God and the kingdom of God. Here is someone who is like no other!

I don’t want to miss being one of those in the crowd who flocked to see for themselves such a man!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share your theme of worship with us from your Bible reading today. We’d love to hear from you!
