The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in Ezekiel 1:28b,

"This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking."
Words fail me as I consider Ezekiel's visions of God. Pregnant with symbolism and meaning, his descriptions are filled with an intensity of color, grandeur and splendor. I have to confess to a struggle I have as I attempt to picture wheels with intersecting wheels that accompany four living creatures with four faces each, the ones we are introduced to in John's vision of heaven in Revelation 4.
There is something here amazing, something here awesome and something here somewhat frightful to me. Ezekiel says he fell face down as he heard the voice of one speaking – he describes the appearance of a figure like that of a man who sat on a throne of sapphire. "This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord."
My perspective of God is just inadequate as I read passages such as this! My view is too small, too myopic! Here is a description of that which surpasses my daily experience. It transcends anything I have ever encountered in my life! Our God is beyond that which I can possibly comprehend!
Simply breathtaking… you've got to read the chapter!
