The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in 2 Corinthians 6:18,
"I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."
As members of his creation our Creator certainly has the prerogative of establishing any kind or type of relationship with us. He could remain an aloof deity, out of reach and implacable. He could establish himself as king with us as his serfs, he could even set himself up as some sort of celestial CEO.
And while he could establish any type of relationship with those who embrace him in faith, he has chosen the very model of family intimacy that he designed for us to grow up in with our earthly parents. He calls himself our Father. He calls us his sons and daughters.
I find in this a wonderful love he holds for us through this expression of setting us aside as his children. I am reminded of John 1:12-13, "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God."
This carries with it a tremendous message of love as well as implications, such as this wonderful passage, "The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ…" Romans 8:16-17a.
Just how wonderful is this? And just how wonderful is our heavenly Father who has made us his children?
