What God Has Promised Us! - Ruminating in the Word of God

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saohim today anwhat came to my heart and mind in 2 Corinthians 5:1-5,

"Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come."

Here is a breath-taking promise! We are guaranteed our resurrected bodies as an eternal "heavenly dwelling"! This is guaranteed by a deposit that has been made: the Holy Spirit God himself has given us! And, Paul tells us that this is the very purpose for which God has made us! Wow…! Do I live my life like I know this, apprehend this, am consumed by this?

We all, from time to time, wonder what the future will bring… will I have that career? How will my children turn out? Will I retire comfortably, in ease? Will I live long or die young? Stack the concerns of a life that will not last beyond 70 to 80 years against a life that will never end, that will be spent in the presence of our Messiah!

A life where he will right all the wrongs, where he will wipe every tear from our eyes, where an astonishing life of joy and happiness will be ours in a renewed world: no more curse, no more struggle with our own sin natures and the fallout of the sin natures of those around us, no more sickness, pain and death! A pristine life of brighter color, more exciting purpose and purer pleasure!

I am sure these are among the thoughts Paul had when he said in the verses preceding the above passage, "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.

Today I worship my God who has given us such wonderful promises. Today I seek to fix my eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen!
