The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in 1 Corinthians 15:9-10,
"For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me."
Paul, the man that ravaged the church in its infancy, participating in the first martyrdom of the church, Stephen, had an encounter with our risen Lord and his life was changed forever.
With an intensity and tenacious drive he took the gospel message to regions well beyond what might be expected. We read of his experiences, the things he suffered and of his concern, his love, his burden for those who turned to the Lord.
Paul tells us here that it was God's wonderful matchless grace that energized him and made his ministry so effective. So much so that Paul says "yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me." This wonderful disposition of God towards us and his equipping of us is strong, powerful and exciting. As I serve with wonderful people I am reminded of the grace of God that makes it all happen.
"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." 1 Peter 4:10.
What a God we serve who truly empowers us through his grace!
