Worship for Today: Our God is worthy of our reflection!

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Psalm 66:1-5,

Shout with joy to God, all the earth!

Sing the glory of his name;
       make his praise glorious!

Say to God, How awesome are your deeds!
       So great is your power
       that your enemies cringe before you.

All the earth bows down to you;
       they sing praise to you,
       they sing praise to your name.

       Selah

Come and see what God has done,
       how awesome his works in man's behalf!

Here is the introduction to psalm 66. At this point the psalmist begins to enumerate the wonderful things God has done. Each one of us should be able to complete this psalm ourselves by listing the wonderful things we have witnessed of him. Come and see what God has done…” is an open invitation asking the listener to share in the excitement and joy of all that God has done! How awesome his works in mans behalf is the most simple description of what God has done for each of us who have embraced him in faith!

Not only is this a wonderful psalm to enjoy our God with, it helps us follow through on an important aspect of our relationship with God, to set our hearts and minds on him. He is a wonderful God! He has performed wonderful acts of mercy, kindness, love and faithfulness. In the past and at the consummation of this age he will perform mighty acts of conquest, retribution and justice.

This morning I am reminded of Pauls direction to us, Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4. Let us do so today as our God is worthy of nothing less!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share your theme of worship with us from your Bible reading today. We’d love to hear from you!
