The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Genesis 18:20-21,
“Then the Lord said, ‘The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”
As the Lord and two angels meet with Abraham, the Lord says he is going down to investigate whether the wickedness in Sodom and Gomorrah is as bad as the outcry that has reached him. These two verses speak volumes to me about our Lord.
First is he is a God of righteousness. In Jeremiah 9:24 he says, “I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness of earth.” Our God is a patient God but there is a level of sinfulness the Lord will take action against.
Our God is not one to have knee-jerk reactions. He is sovereign and in control of all. Nothing surprises him and the actions he takes are thoughtful and deliberate. If this passage says anything, it is that the Lord makes informed decisions.
The Lord can get personally involved directly rather than dealing with something through intermediaries if a situation warrants it. He says here that the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great that he himself is going to go down.
Our God decides what is moral and what is wicked. The homosexuals of our day insist their lifestyle is appropriate and legitimate. The politically correct crowd claims that rejecting homosexuality and speaking out against it is somehow immoral. We will all bow to the moral imperatives of our God one day. And, our God certainly has moral imperatives.
There is an outcry against immorality and it does reach the Lord.
This list could just go on and on. I am sure you can add much to it as well.
