Worship for Today:God's promises to Abram are ours in Jesus Christ!

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him in Genesis 12:1-4a,

“The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. So Abram left, as the Lord had told him…”

Here in this call the Lord gives Abram we find a sevenfold set of promises. In a few verses later, 12:7, the Lord promised land to Abrams offspring. Abram is a man of faith as we are told in Genesis 15:6, Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

In Romans 9:8 we read, In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring.  So who are the children of the promise? This is an important question as we see these promises to Abram were not for just him alone but for his offspring, his descendents. In Romans 4:11b-12 we read, So then, he [Abraham] is the father of all who believe but have not been circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them. And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

All of us who emulate the faith Abraham displayed in the Lord are considered his offspring, his children. As such we receive the promises the Lord gave Abram and his offspring! All of these promises are ours in Jesus Christ!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share your theme of worship with us from your Bible reading today. We’d love to hear from you!
