The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in Isaiah 65:2-3a,

"All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people, who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations- a people who continually provoke me to my very face…"
What a posture for our transcendent God to adopt - the Lord God Almighty, the Creator of the cosmos! Stunning! He holds out his hands all day long to an obstinate people!
People who provoke him to his face! People who deserve his punishment. Paul quotes this passage in Romans 10:20-21 as he speaks of the Israelites who rejected God's message.
But it is also people like me, before I embraced Jesus Christ! People that ought to be whacked with a divine fly swatter!
What patience! What a heart! I am reminded of what Jesus said in Matthew 23, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing."
What kind of divine love motivates our God so? What kind of love prompts our Savior to leave his exalted place in heaven, enter into the lowly human race to take our punishment on himself?
What a boundless love he has for us! It is breath-taking to consider.
