The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in 1 John 3:1-3,

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.”
To be reckoned by God as his child is indeed to have boundless love lavished on us! We could be considered God’s people and enjoy a relationship with him, but God has gone beyond just creating a group of people for himself – he calls us his very own children! Members of his very family!
As Paul puts it in Romans 8:14-17, “…those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
God’s children… heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ! The thought of it is just astounding! “We shall be like him…” I’m just not sure what that will mean for us (and as John says, “what we will be has not yet been made known’) – but I can’t imagine anything better!
How about you?
