The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in 2 Corinthians 1:18-22,

"But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not 'Yes' and 'No.' For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not 'Yes' and 'No,' but in him it has always been 'Yes.' For no matter how many promises God has made, they are 'Yes' in Christ. And so through him the 'Amen' is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come."
What does the future hold for us? How will things turn out for our children and grandchildren? How can we be certain of what lies ahead that we might avert coming tragedy? What lies beyond the grave for each of us? How can we be sure we have fulfilled all we should for our lives?
There is no end to the things we can fret about and feel insecure of. We are made in God's image, but we lack the ability to order, to determine the big things of life as God can. This passage this morning brings to my remembrance that although I cannot control many things in life or death, things that are there for me to face with concern, I have an all-powerful God who loves me and does have that control. Nothing is beyond our sovereign Lord's ability to control.
And in this passage I read that "God is faithful". That "no matter how many promises God has made, they are 'Yes' in Christ." All God has promised will be fulfilled! No question, no argument, no debate, no discussion, no maybe about it. All God's promises are sure and reliable – absolutely bullet proof! Paul tells us that Abraham's righteousness was based on his faith that God had the power to do what he had promised, Romans 4:20-22.
And look what he has told us; look at what he has promised us! He makes us stand firm in Christ – we will never be bumped out of his family! He has anointed us! He has set his seal of ownership on us! He has put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit guaranteeing what is to come!
Since we will never be separated from the love of Jesus Christ, Romans 8:38-39, what is there to fret over? All things will work for the good of all of us who love him! We may experience hardship, difficulties and disappointments in this life, but God writes the final chapter of it all - and as I read Revelation 20-22 what a wonderful chapter that is!
