The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, and majestic in his radiant splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in Hebrews 12:2-3,

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart."
Who is it, what do I see, when I fix my eyes on Jesus? What comes to my mind as I consider him? The writer of Hebrews calls him "the author and perfecter of our faith", the one who endured opposition from sinful men.
I suspect we all have much we can say here. For Jesus Christ to be the "author and perfecter" of our faith speaks to me of one who has such a care and love in his heart for us, it is beyond measure. In that he was willing to endure the opposition we ourselves, as a race, expressed toward him, says much about that "beyond measure" quality of the care and loving kindness he has toward us. As I think of mankind, our progenitors, those from whom we spring and from whom we inherited our proclivity to sin, what kind of a heart is it that is willing to suffer for the very ones that have scorned, rejected and rebelled against him? Surely, count me as one of them. And yet, as a sinner and one who deserves his wrath, he goes to the cross for me!
Jesus Christ is the one who has touched my heart in a way none other can. He has lavished his love, his kindness, his mercy, his forgiveness on me! How do I respond to a heart like his that does this? He is the one who reached out to me, he is the one who equipped others to share his invitation with me and he is the one who provided an opportunity for me to hear of him, provided an opportunity for me to accept his invitation! How do I respond to one who embraced the cross with the joy set before him, knowing I was his prize, that each of us are?
Jesus Christ! He is the one who has reached out and touched me in his boundless love! He is the one I find truth in! He is the one beauty is found in! He is the one who displays matchless perfections of character! He is the one who draws my heart, breathtaking, the one to pursue as no other, the one not to allow any interference in the pursuit of…
If there be any passion in the world, there is no passion that will be more greatly rewarded, more greatly satisfying, bring the greatest thrill, in all we can embrace as creatures than that which has as its prize our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! A lot to consider when asked to "consider him"!
