God Will Raise Us! - Ruminating in the Word of God

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in John 5:24-29,

"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned."

I suspect the chances of me living until the return of Jesus Christ are pretty slim. It has been two millennia since the Son of God left planet earth and we are uncertain as to just when he will return. As most folks, the thought of death is not a personal event I'm looking forward to, but one I have to embrace nonetheless. As Paul points out in Romans 8, my body is dead because of sin but my spirit is alive because of righteousness. In this passage the wonderful hope of the ages is that we who are believers in Jesus Christ will hear the voice of the Lord himself and rise to life, abundant life, in the resurrection!

As Paul goes on to say in Romans 8, "If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you."

I can't think of a more wonderful message for today than that! What a wonderful God we have that has provided a place for us in the resurrection! Exciting, isn't it?!

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share what moved you about him from your Bible reading today. I'd love to hear from you!

If you have someone you would like to receive these ruminations, send me their email address. I'm happy to add them to the list. If you are receiving this and would like to be removed from the list, just reply and let me know.
