The Lord Engages Us In His Agenda! - Ruminating in the Word of God

The Lord is awe-inspiring, fearsome, fascinating, intriguing, majestic, and full of splendor: breathtaking! Here is what I saw of him today and what came to my heart and mind in Mark 6:7, 37a,

"Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits."
"…he [Jesus] answered, 'You give them something to eat.'"

In this chapter Jesus sends out the Twelve two by two to preach repentance, cast out demons and heal people. Later, when his followers were concerned for the great crowd that had gathered to listen to him teach - that they would need to eat, Jesus told the disciples to feed them. The result was the miraculous feeding of the 5,000.

What strikes me this morning is that the Lord shares what he is doing with those of us who follow him. Just as he gave his disciples assignments back then, he also engages us in his agenda, his activities, what he chooses to accomplish. In providing us with meaningful work that carries eternal value he has provided our lives with purpose and meaning. Through the tasks he gives us we find fulfillment and satisfaction in life. Far from just "busy-work" he engages us in that which has eternal consequences for ourselves and others.

Peter puts it this way, "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." 1 Peter 4:10. I find it wonderful the Lord has chosen to use us in what he is doing in the world around us, in the lives of others.

Anything of the Lord capture your heart from Scripture today? Share what moved you about him from your Bible reading today. I'd love to hear from you!

If you have someone you would like to receive these ruminations, send me their email address. I'm happy to add them to the list. If you are receiving this and would like to be removed from the list, just reply and let me know.
